Edison Eagles Pep Band – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the mission of the Pep Band Promote school spirit and band comradery through playing traditional and contemporary pep tunes during Varsity Basketball home games (Boys and Girls teams).

What are the requirements for Pep Band? Pep Band is 100% voluntary – students choose individually to participate or not, as long as their academic and other commitments allow. Students are asked to commit to making at least half of the home games when they sign up through Google classroom. Students indicate ability on a per-game basis, and Pep Band Leaders then determine critical mass for each game 2 days prior.

When/where does the Pep Band play during games? Pep Band supports Basketball teams at home during the regular season.  In the event the team movies to championship play- a decision will be made then.  During Home Games, the Pep Band sits in a designated section of the basketball gym bleachers and plays before the game, during timeouts, and during other breaks long enough for a tune.

When and where are the practices? 3 pre-season practices are scheduled for early evening times. Students will also practice/warm-up before games. Practices are held in the Band Room.

Who leads Pep Band? Pep Band is student-led! Students plan and lead the Pep Band practices, select music from an available portfolio, and provide direction during the game performance. (Parent volunteers are needed – see below!) Band Director supports and encourages the Pep Band but does not participate during games.

Are there auditions? No!

What fees are required for Pep Band? None! In fact, students get into basketball games free!

Is there a uniform and what is the fee? There is no Pep Band uniform or fee. The Edison Band Parent Organization (EBPO) provides one EHS Pep Band t-shirt to each participating student. Students typically wear their matching t-shirts to games, but there are no formal uniform requirements. Students may also decide to dress according to a theme for certain games, e.g., Hawaiian shirts.

Is parent involvement needed? YES!!! The school administration requires at least one parent chaperone to be present for each practice and home game, but students do the heavy lifting. You are there to assist students, make sure instruments are treated with care, and help the band leaders with logistics and timing during games if needed. Your students love having support from their families at band events.  Click here to fill out or volunteer form.

Consider donating your time to a Pep Band event this year; be it for one game or many. We have a lot of fun!
